Salvia hispanica L.
This time I am going to talk to you about the topic of my thesis. For this, we must first know that plants have different secondary chemical compounds that can be used by humans to make medicines according to the characteristic properties of these compounds. Chia is a seed that is known to have high nutritional value for humans, but the properties of the plant from which the seeds are extracted have not yet been scientifically studied. The objective of my thesis is to study the antiparasitic and anticancer capacity of certain chemical compounds that can be found in the Salvia hispanica L., which corresponds to the chia plant, for this first the HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) technique is used to identify and quantify the chemical compounds of the plant
HPLC consists of equipment that sucks a liquid solution through pumps and passes it through a column that has a chemical compound that retains the different molecules contained in the sample. Each of the molecules comes out in a certain time and if a standard of a known chemical compound is injected, it is possible to know if it is contained in the sample if a signal appears in the same time as the standard
Once the chemical compounds in the sample have been identified and their antiparasitic and anticancer capacity is proven, one might think in the future to make medicines with the compounds contained in Salvia hispanica L.
Checked.
